This year’s 2018 Emmys are September 17, 2018. The hosts, Michael Che and Colin Jost are comedians of Saturday Night Live(SNL) and could have one of the most historic Emmys.

SNL comedian Leslie Jones is nominated for outstanding role in a comedy series. If she wins she would be the first black woman to win since Jackée Harry in 1987, and the first woman of color to win from SNL. Sandra Oh is the first Asian actress nominated for the best actress in a drama. Tracee Ellis Ross and Issa Rae are nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, Blackish and Rae’s show, Insecure.  If either wins they would be the first black woman to win the category since 1981 when Isabela Stanford won for her role in “The Jeffersons”.  Director Hiro Murai is nominated for an episode in “Atlanta.” If he wins he would be the first Asian to win an Emmy in the directing category.

This year’s Emmys have the chance to be historic because of the diverse opportunities for people to win.
