School Shooting at Highland High School

This morning, May 11, there was a student shot in the arm at Highland High School in Palmdale, California. The student’s arm was the only injury and is currently stable. The victim is expected to make a full recovery. The shooting took place at around 7:05 a.m. The LA County Sheriff’s Department has stated that a 14 year old boy was taken into custody from Vons grocery store located near the school. They recovered one firearm.

    There were also several nearby schools that were on lockdown. Highland High School was also on lockdown and the students who had not yet arrived were told not to come to campus.

  “Bulldogs, at this time, there is no threat to Highland High School. The campus remains on lock down as we work with law enforcement to determine release procedures for students,” Steve Ford, principal, said on the HHS Principal twitter account.

  For many students attending the school, this was one of their worst fears come to life. Many of the students texted their parents and other loved ones to let them know what was going on at the school. There were also numerous students seen running out of the school and reports of students barricading themselves in classrooms.
